Project Backstory

We built these kitchen countertops for a Buckert Contracting project in Wichita, Kansas. The plan called for a clean, marble-inspired surface that would give the kitchen a bright, put-together feel.

We fabricated and installed Calacatta Idillio quartz for the job. Its white background and soft gray veining deliver the Calacatta look homeowners ask for, while the engineered quartz surface keeps maintenance low for a busy household.

Because quartz is non-porous, it never needs sealing and shrugs off the everyday spills a kitchen sees. That made it a practical match for this build, giving the space a refined surface that stays easy to live with.

What is the difference between quartz and quartzite?

Quartz is an engineered material made from ground stone and resin, while quartzite is a natural stone quarried in slabs. Calacatta Idillio is a quartz, which means consistent veining from slab to slab and a non-porous surface that does not require sealing.

Do Calacatta Idillio quartz countertops need to be sealed?

No. Because quartz is non-porous, it does not need sealing the way natural stone does. Routine care is simple: wipe it with mild soap and water or a gentle surface cleaner, and skip abrasive pads and harsh chemicals.

Is quartz heat resistant?

Quartz handles warmth from normal use, but it is more heat sensitive than natural stone because of the resin that binds it. Always set hot pans and baking sheets on a trivet or hot pad rather than directly on the surface to protect the finish.
